Ronald Chang

Ronald Wah Kun Chang, 81, died March 11, 2019, at Methodist Hospital in San Antonio, Texas. Born April 24, 1937, in Hilo, he graduated from St. Joseph Catholic School in Hilo and served in the U.S. Army.

A memorial Mass will be held in his memory at 10 a.m. Oct. 4 at St. Joseph Church in Hilo. Online condolences: www.homelanimemorialpark.com

Ron is survived by his wife, Linda Chang; daughters, Malia Chang and Catherine Chang; brothers, Robert Chang, Wilfred Chang, Richard Chang, and Rodney Chang; sister Rae Mei Ling Issacs; one son-in-law.

Gwendolyn Gomes

Gwendolyn Gladys Gomes, 80, of Papa Homestead, died Sept. 24, 2019, at a private care home. Born June 23, 1939, in Burns, Ore., she was co-owner of Honomalino Wood Mill and a member of St. Benedict’s and St. John’s Catholic churches.

Private services will be held.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Ted Gomes.

She is survived by son, Theodore (Caryn) Gomes of North Dakota; daughters, Maile Good of Oklahoma, Luana (Alika) Lincoln of Waimea, Moana (Mel) Johansen of Papa Homestead; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.

Felicidad Alatan

Felicidad “Fely” Alatan, 92, of Pepeekeo, died Sept. 16, 2019, at home. Born in Pepeekeo, she was a homemaker and a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.

Visitation is from 8-9:30 a.m. Oct. 4 at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Papaikou. A Mass will be held at 10 a.m., followed by burial at the Alae Cemetery. Casual attire.

She is survived by sons, Michael Alatan of Honolulu, Gerald Alatan of Pepeekeo and David Alatan of Hilo; daughters, Laura Fontes, Nancy (Arnold) Areola of Keaau and Verna Alatan of Pepeekeo; sisters, Caridad Leyson and Flora Reyes of Pepeekeo; son-in-law; daughter-in-law;brother-in-law; seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Gilbert Gutierres

Gilbert “Beto” Gutierres, 64, of Kapaau, died Sept. 12, 2019, at home. Born in Kohala, he was an equipment operator with the County of Hawaii, Department of Public Works, North/South Kohala Highways Division and a member of the Kohala Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Visitation will be 8:30-10:30 a.m. Oct. 5 at the Kohala Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., followed by burial at the Hawi County Cemetery. Casual attire.

He is survived by wife, Faye “Ilima” Gutierres of Kapaau; sons, Davin K. Gutierres of Honolulu, Blake M.K. Gutierres of Washington state and Dylan “Ahia” Gutierres of Kohala; brother, Kelvin (Pat) Gutierres of Kentucky; sisters, Cynthia (Eugene) Amar, Rosemary (Jeffrey) Yamamoto and Priscilla (Ralph) Galan of Kohala; four sisters-in-law; three grandchildren; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
